The Reality of Gender Equality in Art
While we often discuss gender equality in art publications, exhibitions and the art world today, the art market does not reflect anything that symbolises equality. From some point of view, this sector is a way to support working parents especially mothers who need to express themselves creatively and also make money. Implementing political, economic, and social reforms is crucial in establishing a society that truly values equality, particularly regarding the position and contribution of women in society. In the sphere of culture and creative industries, this need is even more emphasized because the activism of many female artists is driven by the demand for a more significant presence and visibility of women in art and culture, primarily to change the current situation in which contemporary female artists find themselves, but also revising bad experiences (almost no representation of female artists in the history of art).
Being a Female Artist Today isn't just about creating art; it's about navigating a market that often overlooks female contributions. . The value of works of art sold at auction in 2022 was a whopping $11 billion. Of that number, works by male artists accounted for $9.7 billion, while works by female artists accounted for just over $1 billion: just 9.3% of the total.

By highlighting female artists' insufficient visibility, the media maintains gender inequality. Therefore, how we approach gender equality is essential because the wrong attitude can lead to misinterpretation.
