Women Promoting Innovation

Gender equality has always been a strong issue in many societies across the world. To this day, even in the most advanced countries, we notice that the gap is not filling regularly. On the contrary, over the past few years, we could say that the cases of gender inequality, are louder than ever.

Women are now trying not to just maintain what is rightfully theirs, independence and equality, but to also prove that they deserve it in a mostly manhandled world. The labor market is the one place where women seem to struggle the most.

Inequality in the workplace

They are still not receiving equal paychecks as men although they might be doing the same work if not more. That is one of the main reasons why a lot of women today are turning to self-employment. And they appear to be right to do so.

Women who are creating their businesses have just as many chances to succeed as any man. If not more. Women now know how important it is to support other women and their business ventures. At the same time, women who are business owners tend to hire more women, to give them a chance to become independent as well.

Women Innovators

In the field of innovation, we can see that over the past few years more and more women are being recognized for their contributions. All we need to do is simply take a look at the Women Innovators award, established by the European Union in 2011 with its sole purpose to congratulate strong women who have contributed to innovation.

Some important example is Irina Borodina from Lithuania, the co-founder, and CTO of BioPhero, a biotech company that is using pheromones as a safe and effective alternative to pesticides. Another example is Martine Caroff from France, the founder, and CSO of two different biotechnological companies that specialize in bacterial endotoxins for vaccines.

Promoting women in EU projects

These are two of the four winners of the 2019 Women Innovators awards, all of which deserve the praise for what they have accomplished, along with the nine other finalists. They are a true inspiration to women everywhere that, every woman is capable of accomplishing what she wants.

In the field of EU projects, we now notice that more and more women are becoming active partners. More than that they are true entrepreneurs, seeing as they are setting up their organizations and submitting proposals to implement some of the most innovative European Projects.

Innovation and gender equality are important factors that shape the ecosystem of the European project. However, even in this case, we cannot claim that the gap is filling. There are actions taken by the EU to do something for the problem of course.

EU calls for women

With EU calls like the Women in Innovation Awards 2020-21, women now have the opportunity to show what they have accomplished and compete for a position that will help them reach the next level in their work and lives.

As a woman who is also a business owner, an entrepreneur, and an innovator, you should remember that actions you take will shape the future of female power in the labor market and who knows where else. In general innovators, both men and women should set the part for future generations. Do what you do best and keep innovating!
